I was very interested in your website about RAF Shinfield Park.
I trained there as a met observer in 1982 and as a forecaster from 1987 onwards.
The pictures brought back many happy memories of the lodge and bar and quarters. When it closed down and moved to Exeter in 2003/4, it was a sad day and I think we lost something important. The blocks and (haunted) squash court stick in my memory!
It was sad to see the Air Force eagle in Exeter minus its plinth - someone had run and tried to swing on it after a bender in the bar and twisted it off it's granite mount - very sad. I believe that it now resides in a garden in Tiverton. It weighed a tonne!
